The Aden Forecast is a monthly newsletter published by sisters Mary Anne and Pamela Aden. The Aden Sisters have lived in Costa Rica since 1974 and started publishing their newsletter in 1986. The Aden Forecast covers the U.S. stock market, mutual funds, U.S. interest rates and bonds, the international stock and bond markets, foreign currency exchange and precious metals markets. Recommendations are based on a combination of fundamental and technical analysis. The Aden Sisters have shown a preference for technical analysis.
The newsletter has received attention in recent years for its coverage of gold. The Aden Forecast gave a long-term buy signal in 2003 when gold was in the area of $300 an ounce. At the time of beginning of the stock market downturn in October 2008, the newsletter's model portfolio was at 55% cash. As of February 2010 Hulbert Financial Digest cites previous 12/36/60/120 months returns on the newsletter to be 1 year 22.53%, 3 years 3.17%, 5 years 5.76% and 10 years 5.47%. Hulbert Financial Digest simulates the buying and selling of everything the letter recommends.
The following results are according to the publisher:
As of June, 2008 the newsletter was rated the fifth best performing investment newsletter over the past 12 months, as tracked by The Hulbert Financial Digest.
In 2007, subscribers gained 59%, 29% and 23% on average in energy, resource, and gold and silver stocks, respectively.
